Maryland Comp Translation and Localization Process
Each translation project is handled carefully by our translation team-every member of our team is committed to providing you with a high-quality product.
Your project will be assigned a project manager, who will keep you informed every step of the way.
In order to generate a high-quality translation, we select an experienced linguist, who translates into his or her native language AND specializes in the subject matter.
For larger projects, or projects consisting of multiple pieces, our translators will create a list of terminology or glossary to maintain consistency throughout the translation. If you have a preferred list of terminology-for example, from a previous translation project-we will use it to create continuity between your new and existing translations. In addition, our translators also utilize other translation memory tools to increase consistency and enhance the overall quality of the translation.
Translating does not only involve linguistic conversion from a source text into a target text. It also involves converting culture-specific concepts and idiosyncrasies (localization). Our linguists are aware of any linguistic idiosyncrasies and cultural differences, and apply this knowledge in crafting their translation. Any information about the audience and geographical region you are looking to reach will help us create a translation that is culturally appropriate and will be fully understood by your target audience.
Another aspect of the localization process is converting units of measurement, monetary values, and quotation marks, to name a few examples. When dealing with British and United States English, for example, special attention needs to go to the spelling of certain words, in addition to adjustments in vocabulary.
Once your translation is completed, our team works closely with editors and proofreaders who compare the translation with the source text. They verify the consistent and accurate usage of terminology throughout the text, as well as the style and format.
In addition to translation and localization, we offer multilingual desktop publishing and typesetting in many formats. Please visit our DTP and Typesetting page for more information.
Our Translation Managers, who each speak at least two languages other than English, will be happy to answer any questions you may have about our process. Please feel free to e-mail them or give them a call!
